Downtown Parking

The City of Greencastle has 6 parking lots that offer ample parking for visitors to our downtown establishments.

Vine Street Parking Lot

Entrance: South Vine Street, just south of Washington Street.

Hours: Open 24 hours per day, seven days a week.

Limitations:

  • Parking is limited to 2 hours from 8 am to 6 pm, Monday through Friday.
  • Longer parking times are permitted during evenings and weekends.

Features:

  • Twenty-eight parking spaces.
  • One HC space available in the northeast corner of the lot.
  • Two HC spaces available in the southwest corner of the lot.

Columbia Street Parking Lot

Entrance: North Indiana Street, just north of the square.

Hours: Open 24 hours per day, seven days a week.

Limitations: No limitations on the time used for parking.

Features:

  • Forty parking spaces.
  • Two HC spaces at the west end of the lot.

Jackson Street Parking Lot

Entrance: South Jackson Street, just south of Walnut Street.

Hours: Open 24 hours per day, seven days a week.

Limitations:

  • No limitations on the time used for parking.
  • Reserved spaces for Crown Equipment may be used after hours and on weekends.

Features:

  • Fifty parking spaces.
  • One HC space available in the south side of the lot.
  • Two HC spaces in the northeast corner of the lot.

Market Street Parking Lot

Entrances:

  • Washington Street, one block west of the square.
  • Franklin Street, one block west of the square.

Hours: Open 24 hours per day, seven days a week.

Limitations: No limitations on the time used for parking.

Features:

  • Thirty-seven parking spaces.
  • Eight on street spaces on Market Street.
  • Two HC spaces available in northeast corner of the lot.

North Jackson Street Parking Lot

Entrance: North Jackson Street, just north of the square.

Hours: Open 24 hours per day, seven days a week.

Limitations:

  • No limitations on the time used for parking.
  • Three parking spaces reserved for county judges reserved 24 hours per day, seven days a week.

Features:

  • Thirty parking spaces.
  • One HC space available in the south side of the lot.

City Hall Parking Lot

Entrance: North Locust Street, just north of Washington Street.

Hours: Open 24 hours per day, seven days a week.

Limitations:

  • No limitations on the time used for parking.
  • Available for visitors to city hall. General parking after hours and on weekends.

Features:

  • Nineteen parking spaces.
  • Two HC spaces available in the northwest corner of the lot.

Handicapped Parking Resources

On Street Spaces

Franklin Street: One space located on the north side of the street, just east of Indiana Street.

East Walnut Street: One space located on the north side of the street, just east of Indiana Street.

Indiana Street:

  • Four spaces on the west side of the street along the courthouse.
  • Ramp to accessible entrance of the courthouse.

United States Post Office

  • The Post Office no longer has a space adjacent to the building on Vine Street.
  • Persons can park in the Vine Street Parking Lot. The accessible route into the Post Office is at the Vine Street side entrance.

Public Parking Lots

Vine Street Parking Lot:

  • Two HC spaces available in the southwest corner of the lot.
  • One HC space available in the northeast corner of the lot.

Columbia Street Parking Lot: Two HC spaces at the west end of the lot.

Jackson Street Parking Lot:

  • One HC space available in the south side of the lot.
  • Two HC spaces available in northeast corner of the lot.

Market Street Parking Lot:

  • Two HC spaces available in northeast corner of the lot.
  • North Jackson Street Parking Lot
  • One HC space available in the south side of the lot.

City Hall:

  • Two spaces in the city hall parking lot.
  • Accessible route to entrance.

Putnam Country Public Library:

  • Two spaces adjacent to the Poplar Street entrance.
  • Accessible route to entrance.

Downtown & Courthouse Square On-Street Parking

Most downtown street parking is limited to 2 hours with the 2-hour limit enforced Monday through Friday from 4 pm to 6 pm. Parking areas with a 2-hour limit are signed.

Handicapped spaces can be found in a variety of locations downtown. There is also a 10-minute space available on the north side of the courthouse square.

Generally, "No Parking" areas have the curbs painted yellow and/or have "No Parking" signs posted adjacent to the curb.

Reserved on-street parking spaces adjacent to the courthouse may be used by the public after 4 pm on weekdays and on weekends.

Downtown Loading Zones

There are three loading zones located downtown for delivery and pick up of products. The loading zones are marked by signs and located as follows:

  • Franklin Street - one space on the north side immediately west of Indiana Street.
  • Jackson Street - one space on the west side immediately south of Franklin Street
  • Walnut Street - one space, 60 feet long, on the north side west of Indiana Street.

Alleys may also be used for delivery and pick up of products.

Parking Violation Fines

Parking violations are governed by Greencastle City Code. Parking fines may be paid by mail or in person at the Greencastle Police Station on North Jackson Street during regular business hours.
