Building Inspector
The Building Commissioner's responsibilities include; reviewing plans, issuing permits, inspecting residential, commercial, and industrial structures during various stages of construction to ensure compliance with applicable codes, ordinances and regulations.
The Building Commissioner is responsible for issuing a Certificate of Occupancy when all required inspections are complete and a building is found to be in compliance with codes and suitable for habitation.
Permitted and inspected construction ensures that structures are safe, healthy, provide access, provide egress, and meet fire safety requirements. Communities that have well-managed building programs enjoy benefits that include; higher property values, lower insurance rates, lower utility/energy usage and better fire protection ratings.
