Forest Hill Cemetery

Words from Jason Keeney, Director of Cemetery & Parks:

"Visiting Forest Hill Cemetery is like traveling back in time.  The seventy-acre site was founded in 1861 after the smaller City Cemetery reached its capacity for interments. When you set foot on these beautiful grounds, you’ll want to explore this cultural and historic space that tells the story of our city and Putnam County."

Forest Hill Cemetery: History and Conservation

Forest Hill Cemetery was officially recognized on the National Register of Historic Places on September 14, 2015.

The grounds serve as a developing sanctuary for birds and wildlife, featuring several species of trees. The Cemetery is actively expanding its conservation efforts through partnerships, including one with the local chapter of Quail Forever to maintain a vital pollinator-friendly habitat. Forest Hill also collaborates with other local and regional organizations dedicated to the preservation of historical spaces, structures, and their surrounding natural environments.
